High School Musical, Jr.

It was fun co-choreographing a High-school musical, Jr. for a middle school performing group. (Jockey Hollow Middle School)

42nd Street

The middle school production of 42nd street was probably one of my favorites to choreograph. I taught beginning tap to the cast, so we could include it in the show. They worked hard, and delivered a fantastic production. (Mt Nebo Junior High, Utah)

Women's Suffrage

I was asked to create/choreograph a dance based on the Women's Suffrage Movement of the 1830s-1840s. I envisioned a motif of raising a hand or two into the air throughout the number, and used quotes- about the movement by those in the movement- spoken by the dancers before the music and throughout the piece. It was quite powerful for me to incorporate the power of text and movement. (Riverton High School dance team)

Annie

This production of Annie invited younger siblings of the actors to be the fellow orphan kids. I recreated the orphan movement done by a previous choreographer of the community show as a tribute. (Payson High School, Utah)

Oklahoma

It was an honor to choreograph for a show with such historical significance. I learned a great deal about the use of simplicity in dance to better highlight the script. (That's not to say it wasn't also fun for our students at Mt Nebo Junior High, too.)

Mental Health, Chinese Fans

I was diagnosed Bipolar when I was almost 30 years old. At around the same time, my husband had cancer, and we couldn't pay the bills. A colleague invited me to teach her students about dealing with health challenges and the power of choreography, allowing me to choreograph a dance about it. It was the greatest form of expression I could use for my own benefit, and I hope theirs, too. (Provo High School dance team)
